Ok. I'm going to run a marathon. I'm aiming for the marathon at the Sydney Running Festival on the 18th September 2011. That's about 4 months away. Frankly that scares the crap out of me. It also excites me but yeah, totally de-crap-ifies me. I've just filled in a form on a website for a company that does marathon training. I want to know if they can help me get fit enough to run 42.195km in under 4 hours by the time of the run. If they say no, then cool, I'll set my goals back a little bit. Do a later marathon some time. If they say yeah but it's gonna take hard work, then count me in.
The reason for the blog? I think maintaining this blog will help with the motivation. Plus I think it'll be interesting to keep track of my thoughts as I go. I'm not sure how interesting it'll be for non-runners or even non-me's but maybe that'll be the challenge - to keep it entertaining. I'll try to throw a few gags in here and there. :)
On Sunday week I'm running a half marathon in the Sri Chinmoy Running and Fitness Festival in Williamstown. It'll be my second half marathon. I don't feel like I've had a great preparation for this one. Missed a week of training that would have been really handy as it involved an 18km run. Plus a cold, minor injuries etc in the lead-up.. But hey, I bet most people don't think they've had a great preparation. It'll never be perfect. So I'll just give it a good old crack and at the worst, I'd like to think I can finish in under 2hrs which will mean I managed what I'd like to be my race pace for Septembers full marathon.
